From Market Stall to Established Name

Our story began in 1949 at the Albert Cuyp Market in Amsterdam. With a passion for the craft and a strong focus on quality, the family business steadily grew over the years.

What started as a local market operation gradually developed into a specialized seafood wholesaler. The move to the Central Wholesale Market in Amsterdam marked an important step in our professional development and logistical growth.

Today, we have grown into a modern organization offering a wide range of fresh fish, shellfish, and seafood specialties sourced both locally and internationally.

Quality starts at the source. To ensure this, we purchase various fish species directly from fishing vessels. In addition, Jan van As sources fresh fish through fish auctions across the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark and France.

We offer a wide and distinctive range of international fish species, imported from around the world. Whenever possible, we work with suppliers who handle fish stocks responsibly. A special part of our assortment is line caught and sustainable fish from regions such as Iceland, the Azores, Seychelles and Tahiti, including Albacore tuna.

Through direct relationships with our partners, we maintain full control over origin, freshness and quality. Our buyers closely follow supply and seasonal availability, allowing us to continuously provide our customers with a broad and responsible assortment.

Since 2010, Jan van As has been part of HANOS, the international hospitality wholesaler with eighteen locations in the Netherlands and two in Belgium.
