New milestone in the eel sector
As a seafood specialist with a strong commitment to sustainability, we at Jan van As are proud to share that the Sustainable Eel Group (SEG) has been officially recognised as ISEAL Code Compliant. This recognition confirms that the SEG standard, the leading framework for a responsible eel sector, now meets the highest international standards for credible sustainability systems.
This is not only great news for us, but also for you as our customer. It provides assurance that eel certified under the SEG standards comes from a thoroughly monitored and scientically grounded supply chain that priotises stock recovery, ecological responsibility and full transparency.
"We deliberately choose partners who take accountability, and SEG does so at a globally recognised level. This acknowledgement reinforces our confidence in the SEG standards and in the future of responsible eel".
From a vulnerable species to a future-ready sector
The European eel is a unique yet vulnerable species. That’s why we’ve long been selective in what we offer, working only with certified, responsible suppliers. SEG plays a key role in this. Its standard supports the European Eel Regulation (2007) and offers clear guidelines for fisheries, farming, trade, and stock restoration.
With ISEAL recognition, it is now officially confirmed that SEG meets the global “Code of Good Practice”. The same quality framework that supports leading sustainability labels such as MSC and Fairtrade.
At Jan van As, we believe that top quality and sustainability go hand in hand. SEG’s official recognition as ISEAL Code Compliant marks not only a milestone for the eel sector, but also a strong signal that we’re collectively moving in the right direction.
